Orienting towards liberatory futures – design as social practice and infrastructures for convening

Alice Grandoit-Šutka is a research-based designer, host, and publisher who has developed an expansive practice that is equal parts experimental, referential, and relational, existing at the intersections of art, design, community building, and food. Among these expressions, Alice is interested in building infrastructures for convening that open up our capacity to feel deeply and orient towards liberatory futures.

Alice is currently head of Public Discourse at re:arc institute, a philanthropic organization supporting architectures of planetary well-being, where she works across media, network, and education based initiatives with storytellers and educators driving and shaping socio-ecological change.

As co-founder of Deem Journal – a media platform exploring design as social practice – Alice Grandoit-Šutka led the editorial direction of the first four issues Designing for Dignity (2019), Pedagogies for a New World (2020), Envisioning Equity (2021), and A Sense of Place (2022). In 2022, Deem Journal became the first ever recipient of the New Perspectives award from the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter.

The lecture will be in English and starts at 18.00. Doors open at 17.30 and complimentary beverages will be available. The event is open to everyone, free of charge and does not require RSVP.
