The jury’s assessment:

Troll is a very forceful, artistically conceived design with all the makings of an internationally unique landmark for Sundsvall. The rooms have been stacked on top of each other, creating a dramatic and beautifully shaped sequence of rooms up through the various foyers and on to the roof terrace.

The building is positioned in front of Kulturmagasinet, thus emphasising the impact of its largeness of scale, which, by reason of its height and positioning, threatens to put the Stone Town right out of the running. The project fails, moreover, to meet the competition brief's desideratum of an extrovert, open arts centre and theatre. The stacking of the theatre facilities, moreover, creates quite intractable logistical problems.
